Any amount in excess of the six bags mentioned above shall be placed at curbside, but we ask that you limit your total amount of trash to ten containers, bags or bundles at the curb.
No. Standard trash bags are acceptable as long as they are designed to store refuse and are sufficiently strong not to break when lifted from the top.
Yes. The first six bags of yard waste should be at the back door. If you have more than six bags, place bagged grass clippings, leaves, branches and tree trimmings at the curb. As a courtesy to your neighbors, please schedule your yard maintenance in accordance with your trash pick-up schedule. For example, if your scheduled trash pick-up day is Thursday, please do not schedule your yard crew for first thing Friday morning so that bags have to sit curbside until the following Monday. If your yard maintenance schedule conflicts with the garbage pick-up schedule, please ask your landscape crew to take the yard waste with them.
Brush and larger tree limbs must be in lengths no longer than 4 feet with diameters not to exceed two inches and must be securely tied in bundles and we ask that the weight not exceed 45 pounds per bundle.
Dead animals may be bagged and placed at the back door for pick up. Larger animals, or animals in the street, may be picked up by the City of Houston by calling 3-1-1.

If you are undergoing a major construction or renovation project, your contractor has the responsibility of removing construction debris from your home. If a small project has been undertaken, such as the removal of a toilet or the replacement of fence boards, the debris from this type of project will be removed.
Boxes can be removed as part of your regular trash pick-up. Please flatten the boxes for ease of removal and tie in bundles. Be sure to properly bag 'peanuts' or other packing materials to prevent them from becoming airborne throughout the neighborhood.
Heavy items can be removed on your regular pick-day. Please make sure they are curbside that morning. Please do not place refrigerators or freezers out for pickup without having them 'red tagged' (Freon drained). If the refrigerators or freezers do not have a red tag, they cannot be removed.
Yes. Ammunition cannot be placed in the trash. Also, hazardous chemicals, or chemical based materials such as paint, gas, oil, insecticides grease, pool chemicals, oil filters, medical waste, propane tanks, batteries and other chemicals should not be placed in the trash cans. If you must dispose of these types of items, please contact the City of Houston Hazardous Waste Department at 713-551-7355 or visit their website at http://www.houstontx.gov/solidwaste/hhw.html . Most household chemicals may be disposed of at the City of Houston Consumer Recycling Center at 5815 Southwest Freeway between Chimney Rock and Fountain View. Before driving over, you should confirm the best disposal of your item.
River Oaks and Republic Services is pleased to offer recycling at no additional cost to our neighbors. Each home in River Oaks should have received a polycart for recycling. Republic services picks up your recycling at your back door. You do not need to separate your recycling items.
West of River Oaks Boulevard, recycling is picked up on Mondays. East of River Oaks Boulevard, recycling is picked up on Tuesdays. Recycling occurs on your first trash day of the week.
Acceptable recycing materials include cardboard, newspaper, glass, aluminum, magazines, phone books, junk mail, plastic, plastic bags and tin cans.
Non-recyclable items include light bulbs, paint/solvents containers, hangers, mirror, tissue, styrofoam, windows, soiled pizza boxes and batteries.

There are a number of reasons your house could be missed. If your home is new, or has been vacant for a long period and now is occupied, Republic may not know you've moved in. Please click here to inform them. A copy of your report is also sent to ROPO. If you leave your gate locked on pick-up day and have not placed your trash outside the gate, Republic will not be able to access your back door area to remove the trash. If your drive is blocked with cars or other access obstructions, there may not room for the Republic employees to roll their bins down your driveway and collect your back door trash. If there is ongoing construction on your street, it may be difficult for the Republic trucks to drive down the roadway. No. While Republic Service does provide a recycling bin, the purchase of trash bins is the responsibility of the homeowners. ROPO suggests you purchase a trash bin that has wheels and a connected lid for ease of use and discouraging animal intervention in your garbage.. If you must roll your bin curbside, we urge you to respect your neighbors by not rolling your bin out the day before your scheduled recycling day.

2) House checks. If you are travelling and want to be sure your house is secure, you can call or complete an online form to put your house on house check. Officers will stop at your property each day to ensure there has been no breach of security over a twenty four hour period. Officers will also relocate newspapers or large packages which might indicate you are not in residence.
3) Complimentary alarm monitoring service at the ROPO offices. Rather than have your security system monitored by a company in Denver, Colorado, your system can be monitored by River Oaks Patrol staff. Our familiarity with the neighborhood and the neighbors helps us to do a more effective job of ensuring your safety than an out of state monitoring station. If the reporting situation is an emergency, our dispatcher can get an HPD officer on site quickly.
4) Twice-a-week, back-door trash pick-up. ROPO contracts with a private garbage company to provide this service to the neighborhood. Because a private company provides this service, heavier items or yard debris can be removed on your scheduled trash day. If the City of Houston provided trash pick up to River Oaks, trash would be picked up once a week at curbside with alternating months for heavy item pick up or large yard debris pick up.
5) Deed restrictions review. As Houston's most exclusive neighborhood, it is important to maintain not only the architectural integrity of the homes, but also to ensure that, as time and technology changes the way we live, so do the restrictions grow and change. The visionaries who planned River Oaks probably never imagined a world with back-up generators, computerized home security systems and solar panels for harnessing energy and, as a result, did not account for such items in the restrictions written to guide the neighborhood. Your maintenance fees allow for staff support to ensure that the old guidelines for the neighborhood are followed and new guidelines are developed when the need becomes apparent.

If a property is being sold, there is a $400 transfer fee. If a property is being refinanced, there is a $150 refinance fee. If a Resale Certificate is required for a property sale, there is a $375 charge and a 10 day period to complete the Resale Certificate. If the certificate is needed more quickly, there are up-charges assessed, depending how soon the certificate is required.
There is a $500 fee charged for changing a property’s physical address. There is a $1,500 charge for subdividing a lot.
If an owner fails to appropriately maintain the property's yard, ROPO may take action to bring the yard or property up to neighborhood standards and bill the property owner for services provided. ROPO makes every effort to offer the owner the opportunity to remedy the situation his or herself before taking such action.
If you live on one of the courtyards on Stanmore or Sharp Place, you and your neighbors living on the courtyard split in equal shares the cost of water/water meter for the common area. ROPO pays the water bill throughout the year. At the end of the calendar year, neighbors on each courtyard are assessed the total of the annual water bills for their courtyard divided by the number of neighbors who share the space.
